Welcome to surfgym. Surfgym is a unique and exhilarating fitness workout which uses the components of surfing to increase strength, agility, power, balance and build razor sharp reactions. The circuit format means up to 28 people can take part in each session. This substantially lowers the cost of a sports specific workout and increases the fun. Whether you’re a surfer or simply looking for a challenging workout, surfgym is the workout for you.
Each class lasts for 45minutes and starts at 6.10pm. There are changing rooms and showers on site. Please wear active clothing and sports trainers for the session.
Session costs: Use the Dates & Times tab for costs, payments and booking information.
Surfgym restarts Monday 6 September at London Southbank University with FREE sessions.
"Why surfing?" Surfing requires the unique combination of agility, explosive power, and a great sense of balance. These components should be part of every exercise programme but are often neglected. Not only are strength, balance and stability vital in most sports and physical activities, they also make a huge
difference in improving everyday quality of life.
Surfgym uses a lot of specialized balance and stability equipment, some of which are shown below. Crucially for surfers the exercises follow the same sequential order the muscles take when in the actual process of catching and riding a wave.

After ten years of surfing in New Zealand I moved to London and quickly realised I needed something to keep me sane when the daily trips to the beach were no longer an option. I wanted something that would maintain my surf fitness, keep me challenged and keep me engaged. Ten years later and surfgym is the final result.
I still surf as much as possible, but as all London surfers know, it’s never enough. The good thing is, surfgym has not only maintained my surf fitness, it has increased my wave count and ability on the board. I instruct the class, be cool to see you in there. Mason Gilmour |
